Pycnopodia - Sunflower Stars - are an essential species of the intertidal zone which, sadly, have greatly decreased in numbers in the last years. However, recent scientific breakthroughs have been made that can give this incredible species another chance to establish its population and restore balance to the ecosystem - and that’s something to celebrate!

This statement necklace features a sunflower sea star that has been completely hand-fabricated from recycled sterling silver, then carefully carved and textured. The pycno is flanked on either side with undulating fronds of macrocystis pyrifera - giant kelp - to symbolize its central role in balancing the health of the kelp forest ecosystem.

Integrated into a hand-made chain of waving links, with an overall length of approximately 18”.
