Meet the Artist

Hi! I’m Jess Anderson…

…the “mermaid and metalsmith” behind Low Tide Landing. I was born and raised in Southern California–swimming in the crashing waves, exploring rock pools at low tide, adorning myself with strands of seaweed washed up on the shore. My passion for the ocean and its creatures accompanied me through a long, winding journey to claim my artistic voice: through science and painting and education and finally, into my work as a silversmith.

Despite my extensive background in studio art and art education, metalworking hadn’t crossed my mind until 2015 when my husband, Casey, began learning under a local silversmith. Pursuing artistic endeavors has always been central to who we are, so together we began creating simple, elegant sea glass jewelry. Over the next few years we grew our family and our small business. In 2018 I stepped away from my job as an art teacher so I could stay home with our three young children and officially take the helm at Low Tide Landing as full-time designer and silversmith–and it’s been the sweetest, wildest blessing ever since.

I create jewelry that celebrates the wildness, the grace, and the beauty of our beloved ocean. My goal is to strike a unique balance between accuracy and artistry, drawing heavily on the forms, textures, and movement found in the sea and thoughtfully translating them into wearable art. I employ both traditional silversmithing techniques and an expressive, sculptural approach to my work, which gives it a distinctively organic quality: true-to-life, hand-crafted, subtly-rugged, yet elegant. My hope is that when you wear a piece of Low Tide Landing jewelry, you’ll feel how you feel when standing before the sea and its Creator: captivated by beauty, and anchored in strength.

I look forward to sharing this wild and salty adventure with you, wherever you may be – high tide or low, land or sea!

About Low Tide Landing

You can take the girl out of the ocean, but you can’t take the ocean out of the girl.

Some of us leave a bit of our hearts behind when we make ripples in a kelp forest, drag fingertips through a tide pool, imprint our feet into cool, damp sand… Whether you’ve always lived by the sea, or created lasting memories during a visit, the salt air and whisper of waves stir a yearning for something wild, graceful, mysterious, and powerful

Low Tide Landing invites you to reconnect with those seaswept moments, reclaiming a piece of the ocean in exchange for the parts of yourself you’ve surrendered to its salty embrace. Hand-forged jewelry, created in coastal San Diego, California, reflects the beauty and strength of the Pacific Ocean and its intricate ecosystems, from majestic kelp forests to exquisitely detailed intertidal creatures.

How It's Made

Hand-made, Slow-made, Heirloom-quality jewelry

I work in sterling silver (0.925) and occasionally jewelry-quality brass and copper accents. Much of my work combines traditional silversmithing techniques with a more sculptural, organic approach. On any given day in my studio you can find me busy at hammer-forming, repoussé, soldering, and bezel-setting stones, as well as fusing  silver, carving and texturing, and exploring artistic patina applications. This lends my work a unique quality that allows me to more closely emulate the actual forms and textures that I so love about my ocean inspiration.

In 2024 we brought lapidary arts into our studio, allowing Casey to cut stones and cabochons for me in-house. We love beachcombing our local coast for sea-tumbled jasper, agate, quarts, and shells to use in our work, as well as sourcing high-quality rough stock and cabochons from American mines and lapidary artists.
