Knotted Operculum Pendant
Knotted Operculum Pendant
Operculum seashell necklace with a nautical twist.
Natural operculum shell is set in sterling silver with a silver wire surround that attaches to the necklace chain in a nautical twist bail. Reverse features my LTL maker’s mark.
Operculums are the “trap door” part of the wavy turban sea snail, a common marine mollusk found in Southern California. The snail can tuck itself inside its shell and pull the operculum closed after it, protecting itself from predators, or from drying out if stranded at high tide. All my operculum shells are collected by hand (by myself or a few trusted friends) on the beach or at the kelp forest floor. No live animals are ever harmed in the collecting of my materials.
100% handmade from sterling silver (0.925) and natural operculum shell. Made by Jess of Low Tide Landing in San Diego, California.
